Doing Right by You and the Planet — Our Switch to Bagasse Packaging

At Teal Kitchen & Cafe, our commitment to the environment is not just a value on a page — it shows up in the decisions we make every day. That is why we are proud to share that we have already made the switch to bagasse food containers for our takeout and catering orders, and why we believe this is one of the most important steps we have taken as a company.
What is Bagasse?
Bagasse is the natural fibrous material left over after sugarcane juice is extracted. Instead of going to waste, those fibers are repurposed and molded into strong, durable, and fully compostable food containers. Bagasse containers are ultra strong, durable, sustainable, non-toxic, and microwave safe — making them a practical choice for everyday use without sacrificing performance.
What Does PFAS Free Mean and Why Does It Matter?
PFAS, often referred to as "forever chemicals," are man-made substances that have historically been used in food packaging to resist grease and moisture. The problem is that these chemicals have been linked to a range of health problems and do not break down in the environment or the human body. By 2025, more than 40 countries have proposed or passed PFAS restrictions as awareness of their dangers continues to grow.
Our bagasse containers are completely PFAS free. They are FDA approved for food contact, free from BPA, PFAS, and heavy metals, and made without bleach or chlorine. That means every meal you receive from us comes in packaging that is as clean and safe as the food inside it.
Good for You, Good for the Planet
Bagasse packaging decomposes within 90 to 120 days in industrial composting facilities, making it a responsible alternative to plastic and foam containers that can take hundreds of years to break down. It is a small but meaningful step toward reducing our environmental footprint, and it is one we are proud to take.
This switch reflects who we are at Teal. We believe that caring for our community means caring for the world we all share — and that starts with the choices we make right here in our kitchen.
Thank you for supporting a business that is always looking for better ways to serve you.
